About me

For over 15 years I have been practicing trauma-informed psychotherapy and coaching with children and adults. As a bilingual educator with a global perspective, I integrate knowledge from different fields to bring a transdiagnostic, culture-responsive, and age-sensitive approach to helping my clients.

Throughout my career, I have been guided by the belief that every person has a unique potential that, if compromised by stress and trauma, may be restored and strengthened. As a founder of Animago, I strive to create an innovative and highly supportive learning environment for children to master self-regulation skills and develop emotional awareness.

I obtained my education in both Russia and the USA, and I’ve worked for organizations such as UC Medical Center, MEDSI, and Yearnst&Young. I’ve taught sports psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy at Lomonosov Moscow State University and the University of Practical Psychology and Psychotherapy in Moscow, Russia.

As a female immigrant and mother, I understand the ever-growing need for new tools to increase the effectiveness of psychological interventions for children. Therefore, my colleagues and I are working hard to develop new therapeutic methods that serve children’s needs. By changing the world of children for the better we are bringing a positive change in the grown-up world.

Reviews of my work

Katerina is absolutely wonderful. I tried different therapists and different methods. However, only Katerina helped me find peace while being in a difficult life situation. Important note -Katerina has that rare combination of high level of expertise and gentleness towards her client.

Sonya has been steadily progressing. The school has started well, she stopped biting her nails, she is more calm (no more anxiety) and she is joyful. Thank you, Katrina!

I came to therapy with Ekaterina in a state of deep depression, experiencing daily panic attacks and feeling so worthless that at times I didn’t want to live. 😔

During our sessions, Ekaterina very gently and caringly helped me delve into the frightening and unpleasant moments of my childhood, allowing me to re-experience the intense painful feelings associated with childhood traumas. After each session, I felt relief, calmness, and it became easier and more joyful for me. ❤️🥰

Ekaterina supported me and taught me mindfulness, helping me integrate techniques into my daily life that allow me to cope with heavy emotions on my own.

Now I know my triggers (which helps me take care of myself), I can apply techniques to manage approaching anxiety and fears without falling into despair, and I know how to help myself safely experience difficult emotions.

My life has taken on new colors: peace, joy, and confidence that I am wonderful have come; I have gained strength, energy, and the desire to grow, connect with people, and even pursue a second profession. ❤️

I am immensely grateful to Ekaterina for her methods, help, and support! ❤️💐❤️

Another review about Kateryna’s experience with my daughter (12 years old). My daughter had a strong resistance to psychologists. I really wanted to help her (through a psychologist) understand her teenage emotional swings and childhood traumas (which I caused 😔) and to instill in her the skill of communicating with a psychologist.

Several psychologists tried to work with her, but she couldn’t build trusting relationships with any of them. This led to her general irritation towards psychologists.

When my daughter came to the first session with Kateryna, she was in an aggressive mood (“Why do I need these psychologists?! I’m fine!”).

But Kateryna didn’t give up ☺️. During their conversation, she discovered that my persistent attempts to get my daughter to see a psychologist were perceived by her as my intention to change her (as if she was mentally unwell and needed to be cured of a disorder). Now it’s clear why my daughter was so negatively inclined!

Kateryna was able to explain and convey to my daughter that talking to a psychologist is a great opportunity to develop her emotional regulation skills and that a psychologist is someone with whom it’s safe to discuss those troubling issues that she might not want or feel shy about discussing with her parents.

After the session, my daughter enthusiastically decided to continue working with Kateryna because (I quote) “Kateryna is awesome and a mega professional, and she is the only psychologist who UNDERSTOOD me and felt what was bothering me! 🔥👏”

I am very glad that Kateryna found an approach to my daughter! This is very valuable! 🙏❤️🙏

War and children

War affects children. Expectations

Expectations are a strange thing. I never expected that I would nostalgically hold a seashell to my ear this summer… On one hand, we need expectations to create certainty and predictability. When we expect something, our brain thinks we have a goal and a plan, and all that’s left is to reach those goals and Expectations

Love

Love is an emotion. It is very vulnerable. Imagine your love for a child or a partner as a separate entity living within your relationship. For it to thrive, it needs constant care. Sometimes I start to think that there aren’t different emotions, but only one. And this one emotional entity has many facets: joy, Love
